The Story Behind Chaser
Named to honor SCC’s “Chaser” identity — inspired by the idea of always chasing excellence, opportunity, and growth — Chaser embodies the values we hold dear: persistence, passion, and pride in our community. When we set out to choose a mascot to represent our diverse and vibrant student body, we knew it had to be something truly special — something that embodied a spirit of tenacity. It didn’t take long for someone to suggest a dog known for its intelligence: the border collie.
Border collies are among the smartest, most hardworking, and most talented dogs in the world. Known for their quick thinking, problem-solving skills, and strong connection with people, these dogs thrive on learning and interaction. Always on the move, border collies are driven, energetic, and eager to engage — making them the perfect symbol for students who are curious, active, and always chasing what’s next. Just like our students, they embody the spirit of SCC’s motto: Dream it. Chase it. Live it. — every single day.
Where You’ll See Chaser
Chaser can be spotted cheering at SCC events, greeting new students at orientation, and representing the college at community gatherings. She’s a favorite among students, alumni, and children who attend campus activities such as Spring Fling, Fall Festival, and many other community-focused events!
Fun Fact: Chaser’s official debut was in 2020, and since then, she has become a recognizable figure across Upstate South Carolina.
